Literacy
- We focused on the letter Ww, and the shape of the letter. We worked
on recognizing words with W sounds, and learned vocabulary words; water, watermelon, wagon, wheel, wave, wadi, walk, wiggle, window, watch.
Sight words: the, see, is, here, I, a, up
Numeracy - We reviewed subtraction by taking a whole group and taking away from it. We made number stories using a group of caterpillars, and a bird coming along and eating some. We used the words take away, group, minus, subtraction, how many left, left over. The students are starting to grasp this concept, but will need some review before the end of term 2.
Science
- We discussed energy of plants and did an experiment with watering a plant with colored water. This activity was to show the students how plants use the water to give it energy. The students were asked to predict what happened when we gave the plant colored water, and in about a day we say the results on the petals. It was a neat way to show how plants absorb water.
Reading and
Writing - We read a story called The Pond. The students were
asked to recall what happened in the story. We talked about the
characters and what they did in the story. The students made frogs, and drew characters from the story.
Next week we are focusing on:
Literacy: letter Kk
Mathematics: Measurement
