Week of November 4th 2013

This week we worked very hard in class. In Literacy we worked on the letter P and created pictures based on the letter P. The focus vocabulary for the week; palace, palm, pink, purple, pineapple, pearls, palm tree, pencil.
In Mathematics we sorted objects based on size and used measurement terms such as big, small, large, medium, and long. Students also measured objects around the classroom using yarn and paperclips. In Science we focused on living and non-living things sorting pictures, and drawing our ideas about what is alive and what is not alive. In Reading and Writing we read a story about "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" and answered questions about the story using the workbook pages. Thank you so much for helping your child with the homework sent home. I know some of the work can be challenging, and I appreciate your help in completing the workbooks with your child.

This week we also celebrated flag day and I tried to get pictures of your child proudly holding the UAE flag. It was also nice meeting some of you today, Thursday, at the parent meeting. I love all the students in my class, and it was nice being to chat with some of you about your child.

Next Week:

Literacy: Letter A
Math: Measurement (short, tall, wide, thin, heavy, and light)
Science: Living and Non-living Things

Week of October 27 2013

This week we had to say goodbye to Ms. Chalathum and hello to Ms. Alia. It was great having Ms. Chalathum's help, but we are very happy to have Ms. Alia back. During literacy time we focused on the letter Nn, and learned new letter Nn vocabulary works (nose, noodle, needle, neck, newspaper, notebook, nine, numbers, etc..). In mathematics we created patterns using pom poms, paint, colors, and pattern cubes. We discussed patterns based on size, shape, and color. During Science we talked about weather and seasons. We discussed sunny, rainy, snowy, and cloudy days. We also reviewed day and night. In Reading and Writing the class read "Stop That Robot," and talked about what is happening using the pictures in the story.  Thank you so much for helping your child complete the workbooks and returning them in a timely manner. I know some of the activities are a little challenging and I appreciate your support.

Next week we are focusing on:
Literacy: letter Pp
Mathematics: Measurement (small, large, long, short, heavy, light)
Science: Living and Non-Living Things
Reading and Writing: "The Pied Piper of Hamelin"
