Week of November 17th 2013

This week we worked very hard in class. In Literacy we worked on the letter C and created pictures based on the letter C. The focus vocabulary for the week; cat, cake, carrot, cookie, car, camel, cupcake, cucumber.
In Mathematics we used a balance to weigh objects and used the terms heavy and light. The students were asked to predict which object was heavy and which object was light. The students also had to estimate how many cubes heavy an object was before the scale became balanced. In Science we focused on living and non-living things sorting pictures, and creating living creatures using paper plates, paint, and eyes. In Reading and Writing we read a story "I Can Help" and answered questions about the story using the workbook pages. The students were quick in recognizing the letter of the week in the story, as well as the way the boy was helping his family in the book.

Thank you so much for helping your child with the homework sent home. I know some of the work can be challenging, and I appreciate your help in completing the workbooks with your child. I hope you are enjoying the English story being sent home on Sundays to read with your child. Please make sure they draw their favorite part of the book.

Next Week:
Literacy: Letter Dd
Math: Capacity (more, less, same, how many cubes will fit)
Reading and Writing: "Cats"
Science: Natural Resources (water, air)
